Three Months In. Real SEO Progress. And We’re Only Getting Started.

In August, we began putting a more focused, data-driven SEO strategy into practice across several client websites.  Now we look at what happened and why the early results have us excited.

We’ve always believed that good digital marketing is about more than having a beautiful website.  It’s about making sure that website actually works for your business.  And when it comes to Google, that means being found by the right people, for the right reasons.

Over the past three months, we’ve been putting that thinking into practice through a more structured approach to Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).  And while we’re certainly not claiming to have cracked Google’s secret code, the early results have given us something worth celebrating.

Building Our SEO Strategy: Starting With the Basics

In July 2026, Hero Digital Lab invested in SE Ranking, a professional SEO platform that helps us dig deeper into website performance, keyword rankings, technical issues and search visibility.

Our first month was largely about learning.  We explored the platform, connected websites, researched keywords and began uncovering opportunities that weren’t always obvious at first glance.

By August, we were translating those insights into action.  We worked through technical website issues, reviewed headings and metadata, improved internal linking, identified opportunities for better content and started paying closer attention to what people were actually searching for.

Nothing particularly glamorous.  Just consistent, focused work.  And by the end of October, we had something interesting to look at.

Three Months. Some Encouraging Numbers.

We compared Google Search Console performance across several websites, looking at the most recent three months against the previous three months.

The results weren’t identical across every website, but a few stood out.

A Training and Education Business: 58% More Google Clicks

For one South African training provider, our work has focused on improving how its qualifications, programmes and services are presented to search engines.  That meant reviewing existing content, researching relevant keywords, improving website structure and addressing technical SEO issues.

Google Search Console reported:

  • 58% more organic clicks, increasing from 602 to 952.
  • 104% more search impressions, increasing from approximately 54,900 to 112,000.
  • A small improvement in average Google search position.

That’s 350 additional clicks from Google over a three-month period, compared with the previous three months.

For a business operating in a competitive training and education environment, that’s a promising direction.  And importantly, we’re not talking about paid advertising clicks.  These are visits generated through Google’s organic search results.

An Established Specialist Services Business: Growth at Scale

SEO isn’t only about helping smaller websites grow.  Sometimes the challenge is maintaining and strengthening the search visibility of an established business.

For a South African specialist services provider, we focused on monitoring search performance, identifying technical improvements and understanding how the website could continue strengthening its presence in Google.

The latest three-month comparison showed:

  • Approximately 9.8% more organic clicks, increasing from 13,200 to 14,500.
  • Approximately 15.8% more search impressions, increasing from 1.01 million to 1.17 million.
  • An improvement in average Google search position from 8.4 to 8.1.

An increase of roughly 1,300 organic clicks is encouraging for an already established website.  It also reinforces something important: SEO isn’t always about dramatic transformations. Sometimes steady, measurable progress is exactly what you’re working towards.

A Business in the Modular Building Industry: Moving in the Right Direction

Another project involves a business operating in the modular building and container industry.  Our initial focus included understanding its search performance, reviewing technical website issues and identifying opportunities to improve the visibility of its commercial services.

Over the latest three-month period, Google Search Console showed:

  • Approximately 9.3% more organic clicks.
  • Approximately 5% more search impressions.
  • An improvement in average search position from 15.4 to 14.6.

Not every website will show explosive growth, particularly in the early stages of optimisation.  But seeing clicks, visibility and average position improve together gives us encouraging indicators to build on.

What About the Work Behind the Numbers?

Here’s something we’ve learned: SEO isn’t a single task you complete and tick off a list.  It’s a continuous process of learning, refining and improving.

Some days involve technical work behind the scenes, checking indexing issues, fixing broken links or reviewing page structures.  Other days are about understanding search intent, developing better content or making sure important services are presented in ways that both people and search engines can understand.

And then there’s the monitoring.  Lots of monitoring.  Because without reliable data, it’s difficult to know whether you’re making progress or simply keeping busy.

Does This Mean SEO Delivers Results in Three Months?

Not necessarily. And we’d never make that promise.

SEO performance depends on many factors, including competition, search demand, website history, existing authority and the work required to address technical and content issues. Every SEO strategy begins with understanding where a website stands and identifying the improvements most likely to make a difference.

It’s also important to recognise that improvements in Google Search Console don’t automatically prove that every increase was caused by a specific SEO activity.

These results are encouraging trends observed during the first three months of our more structured approach, not guaranteed outcomes or definitive proof of cause and effect.

Some websites will take considerably longer to show meaningful growth.  Others may start showing positive movement sooner.  And rankings can fluctuate along the way.

What excites us is that we’ve been able to identify real opportunities, take action and observe encouraging progress within a relatively short period.

For us, that’s worth celebrating.

The Bigger Picture

At Hero Digital Lab, we’ve always approached digital marketing as a connected ecosystem.  Your website, content, social media, Google Ads and search visibility should all contribute towards helping your business grow.

Our deeper focus on SEO has added another valuable layer to that approach.

We’re learning more about how people discover businesses, what makes websites easier to find and where relatively small improvements can make a meaningful difference.  And we’re using that knowledge to make better decisions for the brands we work with.

We're Three Months In. And We're Just Getting Started.

These early improvements have helped us refine our SEO strategy, but there’s still plenty of work ahead.  More technical improvements to implement. More content to optimise. More search opportunities to explore. And more performance data to evaluate.  But the first three months have reinforced our belief in the value of consistent, informed digital marketing.

No magic tricks.  No promises of instant first-page rankings.  Just a structured approach, a willingness to keep learning and a commitment to doing the work.  And yes, we’re allowing ourselves a little moment of pride.  Because progress deserves to be celebrated.

Three months in. Real progress. And we’re only getting started.
